Checking Your Mobile Device
New Zealand has now said goodbye to all 3G networks.
Any mobile devices that still rely on 3G will no longer work, including for emergency 111 calling.
Some imported devices may may still use 3G for voice or calling, or not work on New Zealand mobile networks due to different settings. It is important to act now by checking your device today to stay connected for the future.

What to do if you're affected:
You may need to update your settings or software or upgrade your device.

Updating or upgrading your device
A quick step-by-step guide to check if your device is ready:

1. Free-text ‘3G’ to 550:
Send a text message with the word ‘3G’ to the number 550 from your mobile. Your provider will reply to let you know if your phone is good to go or if there is action you need to take.

2. Check your settings:
Check your phone’s software and VoLTE settings. Not every phone will display the symbol if VoLTE is active. You can find more info about how to switch on VoLTE in our FAQs.

3. Speak with your provider:
If you’re unsure what you need to do, contact your mobile provider or head into a store. They can help with updating settings or information about affordable upgrade options.
