Retailers
Support your customers: ensure they’re buying devices that will keep them connected beyond 2025.
What’s happening?
From the end of 2025/beginning of 2026, all three major mobile network operators (2degrees, One NZ and Spark) will shutdown their 3G networks. This nationwide upgrade paves the way for faster, more reliable 4G and 5G services for everyone. This means any phones, tablets, or business devices that use 3G networks to connect will no longer work after the shutdown.
What does this mean for your customers?
Most New Zealanders are already using 4G or 5G devices and will not be affected. Customers using 3G-reliant devices will lose connectivity after the shutdown.
How can you help?
Only sell devices that are 4G/5G compatible
Clearly inform every customer about the 3G shutdown at point of sale, and check device compatibility.
Encourage customers to FREE-TXT ‘3G’ to 550 to check if their device is ready.
Educate your team and customers: Use in-store collateral, team briefings, and our toolkit resources on your website, social channels, and in-store.
Recycle old devices for free with RE:MOBILE
